The chiropractic adjustment

The intent of every adjustment is to release the stored potential energy of the body and to unleash the body's own innate wisdom and healing powers. As with all adjustments, a force is applied to a critical area along the spine with the intent of assisting the body in unwinding a stored pattern of tension that is preventing the body's natural flow and rhythm.

The way the adjustment is delivered to the body, however can vary depending on what we call chiropractic technique. There are lots of techniques and ways to stimulate the body's nervous system responses, however, Dr. Lisa and Dr. Annette both utilize a number of techniques which are primarily low in force, otherwise known as tonal techniques. Examples of tonal techniques used at Harmony Chiropractic are Network Spinal Analysis, Bio-Geometric Integration, and Cranial Sacral Therapy.

Network spinal analysisDuring a typical adjustment you will feel the doctor applying a series of gentle contacts along your spine. The amount of force applied may be as little as the weight of a dime placed on your skin. We apply these gentle contacts according to our understanding of the tone and geometry of the body. In this manner, the chiropractor is able to more efficiently and gently release the subluxation and assess the effectiveness of the adjustment.

To understand how these gentle contacts work, we need to further understand the energetic nature of the body which has been at the forefront of scientific exploration for the last several years. Every structure from the smallest sub-atomic particle to the limitless universe has a periodicity, a rhythm, a vibration and thus a tone. When an atom, the building block of all matter, is reduced to its smallest component we see that it becomes less like matter and more energetic in nature. This energetic matter, arranged in specific geometric patterns, creates the molecules that form our physical reality, each with its own unique tone. As the configurations become more and more complex, so does the tonal quality, finally creating the beautiful symphony that we are.

When the energies of the universe coalesce, our physical form is created. Tone is what determines our structure and in turn that structure resonates with a characteristic frequency. In the never ending flow of degeneration and regeneration of the human body, the one constant, the aspect that brings order to chaos is the geometry. Cells are constantly dying and being replaced; billions and trillions each day. And miraculously, liver cells replace liver cells, lung cells replace lung cells, even though every single cell in the body has all the information necessary to produce any chemical and become any type of cell. But because it grows and develops in the tonal field of a heart, heart cells replace heart cells, therefore reproducing the geometry and therefore the heart structure.

"I am 58 years old and have experienced neck, lower back and leg pain for many years. Since I started chiropractic care 10 years ago, all aspects of my life have improved. With consistent adjustments, I maintain good alignment and good health. My practitioner is committed to my well-being. She listens to my concerns and offers guidance and explanations. She knows that healing takes place on all levels — physical, emotional and spiritual." L.S.

We see this same relationship on a macroscopic level in our everyday lives. A child raised in a house of anger and hate will carry that tone into adult life. And although they may not express the emotion in the same way, the geometry it created is locking into their physiology echoing back now the dissonant tone, instead of the pure music of life. A tonal field that now produces disease instead of health.

When such a tonal field distorts our geometric structure, it alters our function, alters our perception and alters our expression. The change in the posture of our bodies is not just bad posture, but is reflective of a deeper vibrational shift; a shift that is synonymous with the subluxation, which in the world of chiropractic is the cause of all dis-ease. So in releasing the subluxation we are releasing the dissonant tone; and in releasing the dissonant tone we release the body from its distorted geometry allowing it to then resonate with the pure tone of universal intelligence.

The approach to the nervous system used here at Harmony Chiropractic is based on the innate geometric structure of the body. It seems that adjusting with the conscious awareness of the body's geometry, we access an innate geometric wisdom that can access levels on a much deeper level, tapping into the essence of the tone which created us. Each time an adjustment is made, we free the geometry of our bodies so that we may experience the purity and perfection of that tonal field and echo it back.

When the subluxation is related only to the dis-ease it creates, we miss the deeper value and purpose of the subluxation. We miss the gift presented by the creation of the subluxation, that gift being the fact that the subluxation gives us the opportunity to begin to have knowledge of that wisdom and an ability to reorganize our structure towards a new perspective.

Perhaps you've had the experience of being so close to something that you cannot really see it. You can't see the forest for the trees. This is how it is with Innate Intelligence. It's so much a part of us that we cannot truly see it or know it. It just is. Innate acts quietly and consistently in our lives, coordinating all bodily functions, allowing it to move, healing spontaneously. It works so well that we take it for granted. That is, until interference or separation, occurs. At that point, when all that we take for granted is interrupted, we take notice. We wake up and perceive the lack of connection, we experience the gap between innate and ourselves and say "Hey, something's different, what is it? What is absent now that was present before? What is missing?" In feeling its absence we are made aware of its presence and a desire to know and reconnect is created. The separation from Innate creates distance and with distance comes perspective. And that reaching out toward Innate causes growth, an evolution of body mind and spirit.

The subluxation is not a 'bad' thing, but a necessary component of self-awareness. It is only 'evil' when without any care or attention it is allowed to persist that it becomes detrimental. The chiropractic adjustment is a process through which we move along the path of self-awareness. The healing that occurs is simply a by-product of the reconnection with Innate.
